Compressed air cost

Compressed Air Cost & Energy Analysis

The actual cost of compressed air is not limited to the purchase price of the air compressor. It includes electrical energy consumption, maintenance, air leaks, pressure losses, air treatment, repairs and possible production downtime.

Accurate cost assessment requires actual measurements and an evaluation of the complete compressed-air system, rather than relying only on the nominal specifications of the compressor.

What We Measure and Assess

Depending on the installation, we record electrical energy consumption, operating pressure, operating hours, load and unload cycles, off-load operation and, where technically possible, compressed-air flow and demand.

We also assess the condition of the distribution network, the air-treatment equipment and the points where energy losses or unnecessary consumption may occur.

Energy Cost

Electrical energy is usually the largest part of the total compressed-air cost. Using the actual power consumption, operating hours and electricity tariff, we can estimate the annual energy cost of the installation.

We also examine whether the compressors operate efficiently in relation to the actual air demand and whether they remain in off-load operation for long periods without delivering useful compressed air to production.

Compressed Air Leak Detection and Repair

Air leaks are one of the most common causes of unnecessary energy consumption. Using specialised equipment, leaks can be detected, recorded and assessed so that the required repairs can be properly planned.

Where sufficient operating data is available, we can estimate the energy cost of the leaks and the potential savings after their repair.

Maintenance, Repairs and Reliability

The total operating cost includes scheduled maintenance, consumables, spare parts, emergency repairs and the cost of production downtime.

Correct maintenance and early technical diagnosis help reduce unexpected failures and support more reliable operation of the equipment.

Pressure, Distribution Network and Air Treatment

Operating at a higher pressure than production actually requires increases energy consumption and places additional strain on the equipment. Losses may also be caused by unsuitable pipework, excessive pressure drops, saturated filters, inadequate dryers or condensate-drainage problems.

Total Cost Calculation

The technical assessment may include:

  • equipment purchase and depreciation costs,
  • annual energy costs,
  • scheduled and emergency maintenance costs,
  • spare-parts and consumables costs,
  • losses caused by air leaks and pressure drops,
  • costs associated with production interruptions or reduced output.

What We Deliver

Following the measurements and technical assessment, we present the current condition of the system, the most important sources of operating cost and a prioritised list of recommended actions.

Where the available information is sufficient, we estimate the annual operating cost, the cost per produced volume of compressed air and the potential payback period of the proposed improvements.

Ongoing Technical Monitoring

Periodic or continuous monitoring helps identify changes in energy consumption, pressure and system behaviour before they develop into significant energy losses or technical problems.
